Thomson Majesty accident

The Thomson Majesty cruise ship is in the news currently, following an accident which killed five people during a safety drill. The Majesty is now owned by Louis Cruises and operated by TUI.

Safety on board cruise ships was put under the spotlight following the major incident with the Costa Concordia and in September 2012, the Cruise Lines International Association adopted regular full load testing and launching of lifeboats at least every six months, for cruise ships with over 300 crew members.

It is understood no passengers were involved on the Thomson Majesty (as the drill involves only members of the lifeboat crew) and that the tragic accident occurred during one of these new routine safety drills in the port of Santa Cruz in La Palma.
